About MeThe only daughter sandwiched between two boys, I grew up in a working middle class home. My mother ran her own cleaning business for over twenty years and it was there, working alongside of her in the summers, that I first began to develop my love for beautiful homes. And while many of the homes were exquisite and grand in both scale and design, most were modest and simple...homes where you could imagine living your life. As a young girl, I would stare at the faces in the picture frames as I dusted them, wondering about the luck and the wealth and the life they lived.
It was during those summers, that I quickly began to develop both a fondness and an eye for that visceral transformation that occurred between our arrival and departure. Not every home was a masterpiece by any means, but even in the least decorated ones, some kind of design element resonated with me. It wouldn't be long before I was mentally rearranging these homes in my mind, and instinctually considering what changes could make them more appealing, functional and beautiful. As you can imagine from my mother's work, the home I grew up in, was before anything else-immaculately clean. And while my parents didn't have a lot of extra money, my mom always managed to decorate our home with the sweetest of treasures. Some of which she would find browsing antique stores or flea markets, while others came from the most unlikely of places and just in the nick of time- before the garbage truck arrived! As they say, one person's trash is another person's treasure. Still, my mother's love of all things old, wore off on me and I too began to develop a likeness of treasures from an era long ago past. For all of my life, I have been creating spaces that bring me joy, function, inspiration and pride. I believe your home should bring you all of these things and more. I also believe that doing so, doesn't have to break the bank. And while my Associate in Arts degree is no substitute for an Interior Design degree, I do hold a God-given talent in home decorating, staging, repurposing and redesigning. After twenty five years of helping my friends and family decorate and organize their homes, I have finally reached a place in my life where I am ready to put this passion to work. Niche & Cranny Designs is the culmination of a long held personal dream of mine and the absolute palpable need I have to continue to live a creative life. Today, I no longer daydream about the luck and the life lived by those grand homeowners of my childhood because I live it in my own home. |
